The Ballad of Reading Gaol
We become nervous and our emotions get the better of us. Good thing you can declare your affection and add a spark to your relationship by writing a poem. Now if you are unsure of what to write, you can take a look at the following poems as a reference. Just a little creativity and a dash of thoughtfulness are will create wonders. Today we are obliged to be romantic And think of yet another valentine. Our love is old and sure, not new and frantic.
And saying that has made me feel romantic, My dearest love, my darling valentine. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints, — I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life!
I love your arms when the warm white flesh Touches mine in a fond embrace; I love your hair when the strands enmesh Your kisses against my face. So kiss me sweet with your warm wet mouth, Still fragrant with ruby wine, And say with a fervor born of the South That your body and soul are mine. How does Love speak? In the faint flush upon the telltale cheek, And in the pallor that succeeds it; by The quivering lid of an averted eye— The smile that proves the parent to a sigh Thus doth Love speak.
In the avoidance of that which we seek— The sudden silence and reserve when near— The eye that glistens with an unshed tear— The joy that seems the counterpart of fear, As the alarmed heart leaps in the breast, And knows, and names, and greets its godlike guest— Thus doth Love speak.
In the proud spirit suddenly grown meek— The haughty heart grown humble; in the tender And unnamed light that floods the world with splendor; In the resemblance which the fond eyes trace In all fair things to one beloved face; In the shy touch of hands that thrill and tremble; In looks and lips that can no more dissemble— Thus doth Love speak.
In the wild words that uttered seem so weak They shrink ashamed in silence; in the fire Glance strikes with glance, swift flashing high and higher, Like lightnings that precede the mighty storm; In the deep, soulful stillness; in the warm, Impassioned tide that sweeps through throbbing veins, Between the shores of keen delights and pains; In the embrace where madness melts in bliss, And in the convulsive rapture of a kiss— Thus doth Love speak.
I am not yours, not lost in you, Not lost, although I long to be Lost as a candle lit at noon, Lost as a snowflake in the sea. You love me, and I find you still A spirit beautiful and bright, Yet I am I, who long to be Lost as a light is lost in light. Oh plunge me deep in love—put out My senses, leave me deaf and blind, Swept by the tempest of your love, A taper in a rushing wind. Strephon kissed me in the spring, Robin in the fall, But Colin only looked at me And never kissed at all.
If ever two were one, then surely we. If ever man were loved by wife, then thee; If ever wife was happy in a man, Compare with me ye women if you can. I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold, Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench, Nor ought but love from thee give recompense. Thy love is such I can no way repay; The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray. When I thought it was right to name my desires, what I wanted of life, they seemed to turn like bleating sheep, not to me, who could have been a caring, if unskilled, shepherd, but to the boxed-in hills beyond which the blue mountains sloped down with poppies orange as crayfish all the way to the Pacific seas in which the hulls of whales steered them in search of a mate for whom they bellowed in a new, highly particular song we might call the most ardent articulation of love, the pin at the tip of evolution, modestly shining.
In the middle of my life it was right to say my desires but they went away. Yet I see the small lights of winter campfires in the hills— teenagers in love often go there for their first nights—and each yellow-white glow tells me what I can know and admit to knowing, that all I ever wanted was to sit by a fire with someone who wanted me in measure the same to my wanting.
To want to make a fire with someone, with you, was all. A modern-day shaman teaches a powerful framework for instantly aligning your spiritual, family, work and love lives with your true nature. Discussions Academy Prime Membership Newsletter.

For men everywhere who need to know that deep down what is more important than the search for wealth and status, is remembering that you have someone to love and who loves you back. Yeats's poem "When You Are Old" is for men for whom growing old hold fears and worry. There will be those moments when you remember what you once had and it will give you pleasure. When you are old and grey and full of sleep, And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;. How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face;. And bending down beside the glowing bars, Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled And paced upon the mountains overhead And hid his face amid a crowd of stars. As you work hard all day to search for that elusive goal: This poem reminds us that true freedom is having the courage to think.
